Our History

Alpine Bearing, a trailblazer in precision bearing solutions, began in 1950s New York. Founded by Bob Levin, the company started as a surplus dealer. Bob ran the business out of his car. The business did so well, Bob bought the Allston, Massachusetts office/warehouse that serves as Alpine’s headquarters today. In the 1990s, Bob passed the reins to his son, Jim. Jim Levin worked for Alpine from 1982, learning the ropes from his dad. This transition ignited a period of remarkable growth and transformation. Under Jim’s leadership, and the guidance of Sales Manager James “JC” Calvagna, Alpine Bearing shifted its focus to precision bearing sales and began expanding rapidly.

During this era, we broadened our offerings, adding product lines from highly regarded manufacturers like NHBB and NMB. In the late 1990s, the company established a Class 10,000 cleanroom, enabling us to customize bearings to meet each customer’s needs and standards. In the early 2000s, Alpine’s leadership team further diversified its portfolio by introducing the machine tool bearing line, partnering with industry giants like SNFA and later becoming authorized distributors for SKF, Schaeffler, GRW, NTN, GMN, and Nachi.

Solutions Specialists

Under the visionary leadership of Jim and JC, Alpine Bearing underwent a profound transformation into a knowledge-based organization. Together with their sales engineers, they redefined the role of sales within the company, shifting from traditional salespeople to solutions specialists. Embracing a customer-centric approach, today Alpine Bearing’s team of sales engineers focuses on understanding the unique needs of each client and leveraging their own expertise to provide tailored solutions. By prioritizing continuous learning, Jim, JC, and the Alpine team lifted the organization to new heights, ensuring that every interaction with customers is not just a transaction but a partnership built on trust, expertise, and a shared commitment to excellence.

A New Chapter

In July 2023, Jim Levin bid farewell to Alpine Bearing, embarking on new and well-deserved adventures with his family. With Jim’s departure, Alpine Bearing entered a new era. Under the ownership of private equity group Gemini Investors, Lenny Brookes became the new president. Lenny, a seasoned lead sales engineer who just began his third decade with Alpine, is steering Alpine during this exciting period.

Under Lenny’s leadership, Alpine Bearing is poised to solidify its organization and structure, with a steadfast commitment to elevating the customer experience. Armed with a clear vision and strategic direction, Lenny and the rest of his team look forward to a future of continued growth, innovation, and unparalleled service.

With a legacy built on integrity, innovation, and unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction, Alpine Bearing continues to lead the industry.
